Last Chance Before Sandy Strikes

Launched at 400 to a warm afternoon. Winds were north from 5-10 and the tide was rising with a strong incoming current. Water was stained with lots of grass and debris.

Probably the last opportunity to wet a line for a few days as Hurricane Sandy will make her mark on this region this weekend.

Trolled the mirrolure with the current and immediately got a knockdown. Picked up a 16" speck after a quick fight.  Drifted the area again but no other hits. Trolled further down and started casting the shoreline for puppies. No hits except the perch short strikes.

Saw another yakker working the shoreline 100 yards away and looked like he was having the same luck as me. I moved into the creek to hit the shallows. No bait in the creek.

Trolled the chartreuse gulp with the current on the edge of the channel. Picked up a nice 19" spec that put up a good fight. Snapped a pic as quick as I could since it was a blood bath in the yak.

Trolled to the other side of the river and worked my way back to the launch against the current. It was a hard paddle against the current even with a slight tailwind to aid.

Worked the creek past the launch and saw a fish work the surface but couldn't get her to hit. A short strike from a perch took another tail from a gulp.

Trolled back to the launch and called it a night.

We'll see what Sandy has in store for us this weekend.
