Dead Calm

Got on the water at 5pm to an incoming tide. No wind (was blowing at 20 earlier) and air temps in the low 60s and sunny. Water was dead calm with little current.

Fished the grassy shoreline working the Gulp and 1/4 jig. Found a puppy right at the boat on the first few tosses. Used the new Fish Grip. With that and needle nose pliers, I never had to touch the fish.

Was kind of overkill to use the Fish Grip but wanted to see how it worked. I like how it locks in and makes it easier to unhook the fish using it.

Kept working east and found some hits and hookups with more small puppy drum but much slower than the past few outings in the same spot.

Upriver, I could see large splashes. Wasn't the mullet jumping, it was something working the baitfish. Paddled towards the commotion and tied on a Yozuri walk the dog. A few twitches and the water blows up and the fish catches some air. I wait a second and set the hook. Fish On! Based on the fight, it was either a spec or a striper. Ended up being the latter. A small 12" striper. Love topwater action.

Saw more fish working the top and kept tossing but no hits. Went back to the jig and hooked up with several specs (14"-15") and two more stripers.

Worked the north side of the river on the way back and saw something hit the top. Threw the jig and a small spec (14") picked it up.  The next cast to the same spot produced a bigger 17" spec. Didn't want to waste time taking a picture and lose the spot but had drifted away from the spot. Tossed a few more times with one more hit but no hookup. Paddled back at the ramp at 620 and was high tide.
