Yak vs. Wader Pt 2

The Yak:

Launched at 10am and worked the outgoing this morning. Sunny warm and a breeze from the S/SE at 5-10 with stronger gusts.

Trolled down against the current (hard paddle) with no strikes.  Lots of folks working this section of the river but only saw one person catching - they were doing a slow drift from their boat.  Once again, no luck from the yak. Worked the holes for specs and the grassy shorelines for pups and no hits. Off the water after the 12pm bridge lift.

The Wading:

Got down to Chix around 230 to a low to incoming tide. Breeze was stronger than yesterday and more E. Current was moderate.  Started off slow and watched as the guy next to me was picking up puppies dunking squid. The guys down by the bridge were also getting constant action and the family towards the rock were picking up a few. I was not getting any hits on the white gulp. Switched to chartreuse with the same results.
Picked up the other rod rigged with the mirrolure and casted. After a few cranks, it was Fish On! The fish had some shoulders and knew it was more than another dink. Landed it and estimated it was about 20".

A few casts later, I get another hit but incredibly spits the 3 treble hook lure. The next cast resulted in one of 2 10" specs on the day.  Picked up a few more undersized puppies on the mirrolure. Switched over to the gulp and started to pick up more fish again. Moved a bit west of my starting location and found a nice little honey hole. Picked up 5 fish right in close. Had one fish spit the gulp about 5' from me and watched him come back for it right by my legs and got hooked. Once that spot died off, I moved down past the other guy dead sticking. It was almost sunset at this point and was ready to go.
Casted out and worked it slowly back when I felt the pick up and set the hook. The drag on the Battle 4000 started to scream and the ML rod was bending. The puppy made a few more drag screaming runs and finally   dragged him on the beach. With no tape measure, I was guessing this was 22-24".  No question about being in the slot. Gave it to the young guy fishing next to me like I did the earlier fish.
Picked up a few more puppies after that and ended the night with a 10" black drum.

Once again - the wading outfished the kayak today.
